FoW Retreat

The other problem I have with them is that I find even the normal kit on their backs difficult to decipher.

Is that a water bottle or a hand grenade?

It might serve one well to know the difference.

From the back, it's even worse as they carry stuff like radios? and possibly cooking implements.

(I think I'm getting the hang of this now)

Flames of War. More Germans

Here's the original Konigsdorf Trio after a brown wash to Hans and face.

Or, keeping with the WW2 theme, after capturing an American supply truck full of their superior rations.

They look a lot healthier.

I tackled a new batch too, shown below.

I still have my doubts about their shiny weapons.

I tried a wash of Deneb but on such small areas, their seems little effect.

I paint them using the dark green first, from the bottom up.
Then the grey goes on from top down leaving shaded areas in (mostly) the right places.

I've not worried too much about highlighting though there are some areas such as helmets that I've used a grey highlight.

Haradrim Raiders 2

I had fun with the bases.

I've used Milliput for large flat rocks of the desert and used it to cover the silly tufts of grass that GW put on the hooves.

I didn't like the crease down the rump so used Milliput, rolled thin, to provide another piece of wood work

I've used mat varnish but when thoroughly mixed, it gives a milky appearance.

Not good at all.

Haradrim Raiders

These have taken ages.

I'm giving LOTR less time lately but they were also very tricky.

All that wicker work and the wooden borders to it!

It's on the saddles, the horses heads, their flanks and rump,  and on front and back of the raiders themselves.

I also had trouble keeping paint on - it was almost like the metal models though not as severe, of course.

I'll put more pics on another post so as not to interfere with this one.

Things can easily go wrong!

Eomer

Eomer has been hanging around, waiting for his entrance cue, for some time now.

That armour is a bit of a pig and I really don't like the advised colour so perhaps I'll go back, sometime, and try again with blood red.

The long delay in production has been caused by -

A. Tiredness (low vitamin D and being woken at odd times by Blake)

B. Another bunch of little chaps, ie Settlers 2

C. The Haradrim Raiders I'm doing are proving tricky.
