Really New Ruins 3

One I've worked on in the meantime, parallel with Henry, is shaping up.

There are cuts in the pavement as I figured an occasional chunk of rock that the Orcs didn't want might land there rather than wrecking a wall.

The holes are coated in Dark Earth and will be dry brushed as per the rest of the ruin.

Osgiliath Ruins (Henry) 2

Here's progress.

Base now coated with  Dark Earth and drybrushed with Administratum, then white.

Off cuts treated in the same way as the walls and then added along with rubble and with tufts and touches of grass.

A good result Henry.

Here's the man intent on his work.

Osgiliath Ruins (Henry)

I think I've solved the problem by a revolutionary new approach - I looked it up in the User Guide (when in doubt, refer to the instructions)

So, I may make some catch up progress later but here is the start of Henry's first piece of ruin.

Base plywood, walls foam board painted with glue/filler.

Tops and showing ends coated with thicker glue/filler mix.

The stone blocks were then marked out, scratched through the filler, then painted with Dawnstone.

The walls were then dry brushed with Administratum then white.

The same painting treatment was given to the 'pavements' (Cobble looking wallpaper, as use before)

Osgiliath Ruins delayed

A photo to show that progress is being made.

There are three ruins to show off, one by Henry and I've done a couple.

I've taken a number of shots in the past month but I'm still waiting for the installation of Win 10 on the computer.

Doing so is too big a challenge.

I can't reduce file size as I'm unable to re-install Photoplus 9 (I've lost the input key)

The answer should be 'Never make changes'. Unfortunately Microsoft insist on doing so.

How did it come to this !

Hobbit Hole 2

Well, I found a way to do it but here I may not have a reasonably reduced image (first one)

I'll work on it.

The small window frames are the wider end of needle protectors  from insulin doses.

It's mostly foam card and balsa.

The door was marked out using the plastic top making it about right for Bilbo but a crouch for Gandalf. The inside of the door frame is card, marked out and painted before bending to fit. The brick door surround became a headache so I stuck to wood.

The brick colour isn't right and I should have used a glue filler mix before painting so as to make the mortar visible when scratched in.

The windows have been glazed with thin clear plastic and behind that, garlic bag stretched as diamond panes (should have painted them black) Behind that again, card painted blue. Idea came from GW's 'How to Make Wargame Terrain' but I don't know if it's supposed to be light from inside, curtains or what. I'll try yellow next time.

Hobbit Hole 1 may follow.

Hobbit Hole Problems

Sorry folks.

Photos taken of the progress, such as it is, on Hobbit Holes. However, getting the file size reduced for the blog is proving impossible at the moment. The new machine does not have Serif on it and though I have the discs, I cannot remember passwords. I can use the old computer and transfer them after reduction but that doesn't seem to work.

We'll get there!

Maybe we'll also get there on the front of a Hobbit Hole but so far there have been too many problems.

Variags of Khan 2

Still not finished but, as the next stage is those punched out yellow stick discs, it may be some time. I can't find the punch.

I've given then blue waist belts rather than cream because of the better covering power of the darker colour. Also I gave their weapons wooden handles. The GW images seem to show metal ones which, if lugged around in the desert sun, would soon be to hot to handle.

I notice that the bases need an extra coat on the rims too and the banners more highlighting.

Nice models though I'd work on centralising their centres of gravity if I did some more. They can tip over easily. Another point - I think I'd spray the banners separately in white. Better and brighter coverage for the red.

I did the base painting and highlighting of these five before adding the tufts.

Khandish Warriors

These chaps await the final touch, a yellow disc on their banners.

My good friends John and Val came up with a neat idea for this - use a hole punch on some yellow sticky paper. (It's cheating, I know)

They are in the company of a Haradrim Warrior and a Half Troll to compare bases.

To give them a different look to either of the others I've used 'Mission Bay' sand painted with Deathclaw Brown highlighted with Yriel Yellow and the put on a few 'Wasteland Tufts'.
