The last of the Goblins

The last of the Goblins, I'm glad to say.
This bunch have some of their sores coated with water/iodine solution,
otherwise known as Cassandora Yellow Shade.

I've been concerned about the adhesion of the non-GW paints that I've been using.
Frequently the undercoat breaks through, despite several coats.
This is usually on 'pointy' areas such as tips of weapons or wooden handles.

To prevent this, I've matt varnished these chaps.
There seems little difference in how they look.

Brighter colours seem dulled by matt varnish but there seems little change here.
The Goblin's metal weapons are dull anyway as they've run out of Duraglit.

Goblin Town mod

A short diversion from the last group of Goblins.

I've already disguised one corner of the identical floors with a pile of rocks.

In this corner, a pile of planks ready to be used for an extension,
planning permission having been granted.

I could do with making the score lines closer and deeper.

I've used coffee stirrers and an 'ah!' stick.
You know, one of those the doc uses to hold down your tongue.
Perhaps balsa would be better?

They are glued into position, as were the rocks.
In both cases, just a tweak to try to change the look of identical pieces of scenery.

Goblin Town - More Goblins

This is the last frame from the Goblin Town box set and, to be honest, I'll be glad to see the back of them. I've split them into two groups of nine, so here's the first. Honest, they really are new ones. Not just the previous batch in different positions.

I'm painting and taking these shots in a different light now and I think it's a touch blue. I tried adjusting them on the second shot.  More so on the third.

Goblin Town Dwarves retreating

Gloin and Dori

Bombur, Balin and Fili

Note that I've been using glue/sand for the bases on these Dwarves and on Gandalf and Bilbo. This was partly following the decision to base them as were the hobbits, at least in colour with added grass. The main reason was that I've used Vallejo Earth Texture paint on most models for ages but there are several things that make it pointless. It's coloured, yet I paint it. It's more difficult to apply than glue. It costs much more. It's only advantage seems to be its drying time. I'll revert to it for the remaining 18 Goblins that are up next.

Goblin Town - Fili, Balin, Dori, Bombur and Gloin

The last batch of Goblin Town Dwarves.

Some of these were excellent models though Fili's hands were rather crude.

Balin's highlighting seems altogether too suttle (how else would you spell it!)
so I might return to him.

I presume the black case is for the weighty looking weapon (Mace?)

I was tempted to place a string of sausages on the ground near Bombur.
Might some day add it.

I tried to vary the colour of their hair/beard a little, adding some Balor Brown to the Vermin brown in one case and Mournfang in another. One I washed with Casandora Yellow.
Do any of them look different?

Goblin Town Dwarves - Ori

Ori has the happy knack of finding, wherever he goes,
a pile or two of rocks as ammunition.

Goblin Town - Bifur

Bifur

Though I think his wasp disguise will fool only the dimmest of Goblins

Goblin Town Dwarves - Oin

Oin before a coat of varnish (and before a sowing of grass seed germinated)

I've decided that, as the paints I'm using seem not as hard wearing as GW's, I will varnish the bases as well as the models.

So here's Oin, thoroughly varnished.
