Our last order to arrive before Christmas was sent off today but we still have some great Games Workshop stock, all at 25% off.
That includes the new Hobbit boxed game and the great new Rule book for it. Oh, and the paint set.
However, you'll have to be quick. I have my eye on all three.
Talking about The Hobbit -
Anyone seen 'The Hobbit' movie yet? I have and, though I thought the running, jumping, standing still scenes were far too long and that the cut and splice approach to the original story and a few dozen other bits and pieces made it a bit of a mess, I still enjoyed it. Smeagol was fantastic and, of course, so was the landscape.
Cotswold Bookstore has closed. This blog is now, simply, my LOTR record.

Imperial Fists Sergeant
Justin called in more than a week ago with this perfectly painted fellow, a sergeant of the Imperial Fists.
He's in the window, as of today, if you want a closer look.
'You lookin' at me?'

Hobbit game news
Here's the first news from Games Workshop of their up-coming Hobbit game.

Apothecary
Now that the 24 Dwarves are behind me, I thought I'd tackle a Space Marine Command Squad.
That's not literally of course.
Actually, behind me is a bookcase stuffed with books and to try rugby tackling a Space Marine Command Squad would mean certain death.
Anyway, here's the Apothecary nearly done (basing needed and his helmet should be white).
What should be written on his left shoulder banner?

Jason's models
Now a couple of brilliant models from a talented young painter.
Jason has done a terrific job on these two knights with lots of accurate detail and shadows created by the use of a wash or two.
Sorry the pics are not up to your standard Jason.
Jason - Perhaps you can let me know more detail about these excellent models.
If you want a better view, they are both in the window for a while.

Eldar from Andrew
I promised some pics of other models now in the window and here are a couple from 'Old Andrew' .
He's been busy painting Eldar.
That's Wraith Guards on the right and a Howling Banshee on the left.
I always like what he does with blue/white.

24 Done
And here they are, finished - hurriedly.
Coal black bases, they are miners, after all, with a hint, here and there, of gold and mithril.
Yes, I can count.
I've taken a photo of just 10 of the 24 but they are all in the window, as of today.
There are some other new additions too. More of them later.

Dwarves - nearly there
The 24 LOTR Dwarves are nearly there. Bases are all glued up with massive chunks of shale.
It will be black rocky 'soil' and there'l be traces of Gold and Mithril in among some of the boulders.
That will be done tomorrow night.
Meantime, here are two ready for their base painting.
Wraith Guard etc
'Old' Andrew popped in with some models for the window.
They should go in this weekend when my Dwarves are ready.
There's some Eldar - Wraith Guards and a Howling Banshee.

Dwarves in a Hurry
I've decided to throw a large number of dwarves (Nobody tosses a Dwarf!) at the window asap.
I'm limited for time every evening but I'm trying to get all 24 of them done in a week.
I started on Wednesday with a hurried drybrush of the armour and axe blades.
Thursday was beard (Not the beard!) and flesh day.
On Friday I only had time for axe handles and bows.
Saturday was for some leatherwork.
Today it's been a unifying green for jackets and tabards.
Um! Doesn't leave much time for arrow fletchings, the remaining leatherwork, all the bits I've missed and bases does it.
Perhaps 10 days eh?
Have to have them ready for the forthcoming announcement from Games Workshop about The Hobbit though.

Land Speeder
Lewis's Land Speeder is nearly done and as he's due to call in to see me tomorrow, I've hurriedly 'finished' it.
Yes, there's blue-tack in evidence but I'll talk to Lewis about glueing them in place or not.
He wanted some battle damage (including a blood pool!) which will be difficult to do with the troops in situ (or standing up).
The handles by the doors are not all fixed, nor are there supply packs on board but Lewis might accept it as it is till term break up at Christmas.
Next project? Well there's a tactical squad to be done or some more Skaven or a host of LOTR troops.

Last Special Edition
Wow! That was close.
Young Theo rushed in after we had sold the last two special edition Dark Vengeance box sets this morning.
Luckily, I hadn't grown too attached to the one I'd set aside for myself.
(A bit of hay fever was the cause of the tears and they weren't sobs, they were hiccoughs)
Yes, that's it folks. From now on it's the standard edition we'll have in stock.
I guess I should have ordered at least ten more!
By the way, are these guys your? Terrible isn't it. I've already forgotten who they belong to.

Commander Aday
This Commander is as finished as it's going to be.
The Chaos one (belonging to Henry) has been around for a while but the new one (Lewis's) has finally been perched on his rock.
As I want to get on with the Land Speeder, which is coming along very slowly, I'm calling it a day.
(That's not his name - I mean that, as far as I'm concerned, I've finished!).

Scratch-built Storm Eagle
'Old' Andrew has been working on a scratch built Storm Eagle.
Made from mounting board, copper and plastic tubing, plumbing accessories, the plastic doors from a Rhino and cut down large square Warhammer bases (the missile pads).
A touch-up with various greens.
His next project, an entire army of Space Marines made from old camera components, three severely dented brass band instruments, two pound of uncooked spaghetti and a 1932 New York fireman's helmet.

Jack's Grots
Here's Jack's collection of nicely painted Grots.
(Grots, what big teeth you have - All the better to eat you with, my dear. After I've drilled with a massive pistol!)
The Ork keeps well back. In front of Grots with gigantic pistols is not a good place to be.
Thanks Jack.

Land Speeder and Commander
Here's how the Land Speeder and Commander are coming along.
The flat large surface areas are worrying me more than the fine detail on the Speeder.
Not only are there colour changes in the blue but also I seem to be finding a lot of dust now that I'm painting downstairs and not in my 'office'.
Though they are taking me ages, it's all a bit rushed as I have limited time.
Jack called in today with some Grots and an Ork so we'll have pics of those up here soon.
(He has his eye on the Limited Edition box set)

James - Update
James, who went off a while ago with the Limited Edition box set from here, has now mailed us two short 'reports' about his painting and new school club.
29/9
Hi Tony,
The Last model is my favourite
as well. I spend about an hour ish a model. the character was stood on a base
with a stone from my garden which was cleaned. Then I put sand on the remaining
base and gave the stone and sand a wash with nuln oil. Since I took some into
school I have found many people into the hobby and have persuaded about 4 more
to start. I am planning on going to my local gaming club tomorrow and playing a
game or 2. We started a club at school so I have had some practise. When I get
them uploaded I will send you the pictures of our battle. It was quite big. I bought
another squad of marines, a predator and a scout squad with snipers. The predator
is equipped with twin linked lascannon turret and lascannon sponsons. I am really
enjoying Warhammer 40k and even though it is complicated sometimes I thoroughly
enjoy playing. Am having fun playing and doing well as I have quite a big and
powerful starter army. Love the looks of the interrogator chaplain. Hope to get
more painting done soon.
30/9
My first battle today went well. I lost but was so close to winning. The scouts
came in very hand with being able to use infiltrate. I infiltrated them into
fortification meaning I had a 3+ save and then because of the cloaks I got a 2+
save which meant they lasted the whole match. I enjoyed it sooooo much. Might
get a land speeder soon.
I replied that he'd have to come and teach me how to play!
He mentioned a Land Speeder. Mine is coming along slowly. Had to work on Lewis's Commander first. Pics will follow.

More from Andrew
I said I'd put the rest of 'Old' Andrew's models on here when I knew what they are.
Well, I did carefully write that down on a piece of paper.
Wonder what I did with it?
Oh, well. Here they are anyway.
The last is work in progress.

Old Andrew - Drop Pods
We have two regular 'Andrews' who call in and chat about Games-Workshop.
One is a young lad and the other a little older with a child of his own.
So, from now on, they are Young Andrew and Old Andrew.
This waffle is because Old Andrew called in yesterday with some models, all with smashing paint jobs.
There were some smaller models which will appear later but these Drop-Pods were classy, I thought.
With Lewis's Land Speeder still under construction*, I was particularly interested in his technique for painting large flat surfaces by dry-brushing.
I was in High Wycombe GW on Saturday where they were showing me the same thing.
The one on the right is a horse of a different colour - same technique.
* Delay caused by Lewis needing a Commander for his army now that a new club has started at his school so I'm busy with that.

Dark Vengeance stocks
One last post today. We still have a few Limited Edition copies of 'Dark Vengeance'. I believe 5.
Models from Josh
Good to see Josh again too.
His models have come on in leaps and bounds.
Well, actually, the models haven't. They stand still, of course.
I mean Josh is now a good painter.
That can be seen from his Striking Scorpion, Phsyker, Ranger and Exarch Captain here.
Though I do seem to have missed one out. Sorry.

Jack's models
Here are some models from young Jack.
I think they are a Dark Eldar Guardian, a Deffkopter and an Ork Warboss.
(Not as on top of things here as I'm working from the shop. Home computer has a problem)
Odd colours I'm afraid because I thought a green background was a good idea.
Thanks for showing them us Jack.
A dab hand!

Land speeder in slow lane
Yes, it's a slow business.
A house full of guests and four book signings this month and there's little time for painting.
However, it's coming on - slowly.

Dark Vengeance
Dark Vengeance is back in town.
Yes, we now have a stock of the Limited Edition new box game again.
However, it is not only a Limited Edition, it is also limited in numbers.
If you want one at Christmas, get in here quick or call in to see the latest White Dwarf to find out what the fuss is about.
(I also have my copy for you to peer inside. 20p per look!)

A young man called Alexander has been trying to send us photos of some of his recent models but had problems.
So, what did this kind fellow do but get himself over here and deliver the pics via something he had round his wrist.
All magic to me but here they are or at least a couple.
He showed us 3 Dwarves and 1 Urak-Hai but that seemed unfair.
1 Dwarf per Urak-Hai seemed a much fairer fight.
Thanks very much Alexander for persevering and well done on the models.
Next time you're in town, If I'm in the shop, show us the actual models.
I'm busy with 40K for my grandsons but I'm keen to get back to some LOTR painting.
Especially with The Hobbit coming up soon.

Dark Vengeance - Special Edition
Meantime, we are out of the new box set for 40K, Dark Vengeance, but a whole pile of them are on their way.
These will probably be the last we can get of the Special Edition box so Hurry, Hurry, Hurry!
(I've got mine so boo to you!)

Ork Warboss
Our next visitor was young Andrew who is clearly headed for a Golden Demon some time in the future.
He's not been painting long but just look at the care he's lavished on this Ork Warboss.
It's so good I felt I had to give it a front and back shot so you get double value from both of today's modellers.

Dark Angels
The first of our models today, well two, actually, were fetched in by David R.
He showed us them as an example of what you can do with the models and paints in the 40K starter set.
The paints used on these models are all in the box with the 5 models.
Of course they can be painted differently but David has done them as the box shows, I think that is as Dark Angels.
David is not only a dedicated and careful painter, he also know the rules backwards.
Not that that is much use but you'll be pleased hear that he knows them forwards as well.

Dark Vengeance out of stock (for now!)
The last 2 sets of Dark Vengeance have gone so more on order.
Meantime, I'm making slow progress on Lewis's Land Speeder (Storm).
As you can see, the bulkheads are not glued in place yet, just propped up.
I'm painting each piece separately.
Those buttons and dials are way off perfect but they'll do.

Andrew's latest
Best bit of the day though was when two youngsters called in, one, Andrew, with these two cool beasts that he's been working on.
That's a Dreadnought, I know, but is that a Deffkopta?
He's getting quite an army together.
We had another chat about evening painting sessions to save youngsters going all the way to Stratford and fighting for space.
6 youngsters at the most.
Still thinking about it!
